Kolkata: Dengue continues to claim one life after another in Kolkata and there are dengue diagnosed people almost in every part of the city.
While a minor boy from Goa Bagan in north Kolkata died of dengue yesterday, a report has surfaced today of the death of a middle-aged homemaker due to the deadly fever from neighbouring Ultadanga area.
Krishna Hazra (40) of Murari Pukur near Ultadanga was suffering from high fever since 23 August. Her family admitted her to a private nursing home at Phoolbagan in the city the very next day.
There, after battling it for over a fortnight, Hazra succumbed to the fever on 10 September. Her family says that the hospital has mentioned dengue shock syndrome and multi-organ failure as the cause of death.
The death comes even as several people, whose numbers could not be ascertained due to non-availability of government data, are down with dengue in areas like Salt Lake, Ultadanga, Kankurgachi, Maniktala, etc.
People alleged that despite knowing that dengue cases spurt during monsoon, Kolkata Municipal Corporation is not doing enough to clean up the drainage system and to spray disinfectant that can kill mosquito larva.
