Howrah, 12 September: A 26-year-old girl, studying homeopath medicine, has ended her life following a tiff with her boyfriend who is pursuing MBBS at NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The incident has taken place at Liluah in Howrah late last night, prompting the girl’s father to lodge a complaint for abatement to suicide against the boyfriend and his father.

The deceased has been identified as Sanchita Chatterjee, a second year homeopath medicine student at Nitaicharan Homeopath Medicine College located at Liluah’s Belgachia.

She belonged to a poor family having a younger brother and a sister. Her father Uttam Chatterjee works as a priest, but the family runs on the earning of her brother who works in a private firm.

According to Sanchita’s parents, she had been into an affair with Kaushik Roy of Kancharapara in North 24-Parganas for the past three years. Kaushik is an MBBS student at NRS Medical College at Sealdah. Both their families knew about the relationship and their marriage was to take place after the boy completing his MBBS.

But for the past few days, a discord started between them with Kaushik reportedly trying to end the relationship at the pressure of his father who is not in favour of him marrying a poor girl. Kaushik’s father allegedly called up Sanchita and asked her to leave his son alone.

Depressed over this, Sanchita took multiple sleeping pills at her residence at Liluah B Road last night even as she was talking to Kaushik over the phone. Her parents discovered this when he came out of her room and fainted on the courtyard.

Sanchita was at once rushed to Howrah District Hospital, which referred her to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata as her condition was too critical to be handled there. The girl succumbed midway in the ambulance.

Today morning, her father Uttam Chatterjee lodged a complaint at Liluah police station implicating her boyfriend and his father. Police have initiated a probe and has confiscated Sanchita’s mobile phone for clues.
