Siliguri, 03 August: A young homemaker and her daughter have been hacked to death and her businessman husband critically injured in their home at Fulbari area in Siliguri.
The incident took place in the wee hours today at Bhalaobasa More area of Fulbari’s Panchkelguri. The deceased have been identified as Ritei Saha (31) and Payel (10); the injured trader is Abhinandan Saha (38) who is wholesaler of food grains.
Around 1 am, neighbours rushed out of their homes hearing cry for help from the Saha family and saw Abhinandan standing on the first floor balcony of his bi-storied building. He was injured and bleeding profusely from the body.
Alarmed neighbours at once climbed up to the first floor and found Abhinandan’s wife and daughter lying dead in the master bedroom with their throats slit. Abhinandan’s seven-year-old son, Asit, was however fast asleep on the bed in a nearby room.
On being alerted, cops from New Jalpaiguri police station arrived soon and with the help of neighbours rushed Abhinandan to a private hospital in Siliguri. He is admitted there in a critical state.
Police have found blood stains on a window of the bathroom attached to the bedroom where the mother and her daughter were found dead. They suspect that the assailant(s) might have escaped through the window.
Police are, however, in a fix as regards the motive of the killing as neither valuables nor money have been taken away from the house. In fact, the cops have found Rs 6-lakh in cash and some gold jewellery in a cupboard in the master bedroom, which happens to be the scene of the crime.
Investigators are waiting for Abhinandan to stabilise so to get some clue as regards the assailant (s) and the motive behind the double murder.
