Kolkata, 25 December: A young cricketer has been hospitalised after being injured in the head during a match at Eden Gardens this afternoon.
The accident took place during the final test match being played between East Bengal FC and Bhowanipore Club in the A N Ghosh Memorial Trophy.
Ritam Porel, a cricketer with East Bengal FC, was fielding when the ball hit him on the back of his neck following a long shot by the batsman. He fell down on the ground at once and was helped out by playmates to the pavilion.
The doctors with Cricket Association of Bengal at Eden Gardens administered him first aid. After this, Porel was rushed to a private hospital in central Kolkata, where he has now been admitted for further treatment.
Hospital sources said that Porel’s condition was stable but he will be kept under observation for 24 hours.
