Kolkata, 22 September: AS PART of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of 1965 Indo-Pak War in the country, Eastern Army Command organised a series of commemorative events over the past two days.
On Tuesday, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Praveen Baakshi and Gen (Retd) Shankar Roy Choudhury laid wreaths at the Vijay Smarak at Fort William in Kolkata to pay homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the country.
A presentation on the various battles of the 1965 War and an interactive session with the war veterans to relive their memories were also organised at Fort William.
On Monday evening, the Eastern Command had held a Military Band Concert at Princep Ghat in memory of the war heroes. The band display reminded the sacrifices made by the Indian soldiers in defending the country against Pakistani aggression during the 1965 War.
The authorities also organised a screening of 1965 War movie at the Army Auditorium at Fort William and this was attended by a large number of 1965 Indo-Pak War veterans. Thge war veterans were later felicitated by Lt Gen Baakshi.
The Army establishments in Gangtok, Binnaguri, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Sevoke Road, Sukhna, Guwahati and Dimapur also held similar events commemorating the Golden Jubilee of 1965 War.
