Kolkata, 08 September: WITH the waterlogging on railway tracks at Tikiapara affecting train services from Howrah for three days in a row now, Eastern Railway has appointed a consultant to fix the problem for good.

According to Eastern Railway general manager Ghanshyam Singh, the consultant has been asked to examine the cause of waterlogging thoroughly and suggest ways to get over the menace that affects train services at Howrah every monsoon.

“We are hoping to get the report in two months from now and will then execute the suggestions after due deliberations,” Singh said addressing an interactive session organised by the MCC Chamber of Commerce today.

As regards, the waterlogging at Sealdah yard this season, the general manager said that they would fix the problem soon. “The root of the waterlogging has been identified and we would address this on our own.”

Singh informed that the punctuality of train services in Eastern Railway would go down by two-three per cent due to the waterlogging on railway tracks at Tikiapara and Sealdah. In July, ER had recorded a punctuality of 93.77 per cent in train running.
