Kolkata: With CBI arresting leading journalist Suman Chattopadhyay in a chit fund scam yesterday, Bennett & Coleman Group has removed him as the editor of its Bengali daily, Ei Samay.

Ei Samay has not made any explicit announcement in its edition today but the printer’s line at the bottom of page-14 (last page) reads that Rupayan Bhattacharya is the editor.

The newspaper has not carried the news of Chattopadhyay’s arrest.

The new editor of Ei Samay, Bhattacharya is an alumnus of Narendrapur RKM Residential College.

He worked for the Anandabazar Patrika from 1990-2012 in senior editorial positions. Late that year he left ABP and joined Ei Samay as the sports editor, in which he continued until yesterday.

Following the sudden arrest of Chattopadhyay yesterday evening, the 55-year-old was appointed the new editor of the newspaper.
