Siliguri, 31 October: A two-year-old child has died of injuries after falling from the first floor of his house at Jalpaiguri today morning.

The incident took place at Adarpara in ward no 11 of Jalpaiguri town. The child, Soumyajit Ghoshal, was playing on the first-floor veranda of his house, while his mother and others of the family were busy in domestic chores.

Soumyajit somehow slipped through the railing and fell to the ground. It was neighbours who first saw him lying in a pool of blood and raised an alarm. The two-year-old body was at once rushed to Jalpaiguri District Hospital with critical injuries in the head and limbs.

With his condition deteriorating fast, the family then took him to a nursing home at Siliguri. Doctors there decided to perform an emergency surgery on the child but succumbed to the injuries in the operation theatre. He died of an excessive haemorrhage from the head.
