Midnapore, 29 November: POLICE have arrested the parents of a new-born and a female attendant of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital while they were trying to sell her.
According to West Midnapore superintendent of police, Bharati Ghosh, acting on a tip off they laid a trap and caught female attendant Shivani Ruidas while she was accepting money on Midnapore Medical College premises from a prospective buyer of the female baby.
By questioning her, police subsequently detained the parents of the new-born from the hospital premises itself. They have been identified as Kavita and Uttam Dandapat of Chandipur in Jhargram.
The couple have told police that the female baby was born to them on 27 November at a government hospital in Jhargram and they brought her to Midnapore Medical College due to health issues.
During this, they came across female attendant Shivani and told her that they were not willing to retain the baby as it was the third girl child born to them. Following this, Shivani offered them to sell off the baby for Rs 5,000 and stated looking for buyers.
