Asansol: TWO drivers have been charred to death in Bankura following the head-on collision between two lorries. The conductor of one of the lorries has been critically injured in the mishap.
The accident took place in the wee hours today around 3.30 am at Bankura’s Heavy More area on National Highway 60. The identity of the deceased drivers is yet to be ascertained.
Residents of the area said that they heard a huge bang and rushed out to find two lorries up in flame. One lorry was carrying stones, the other was ferrying cement.
“We somehow managed to rescue the conductor of a lorry with critical burns but could not save the drivers. Fire-tenders arrived almost an hour after being informed. Had they arrived fast, the drivers may have survived,” said one of the residents.
Three fire-tenders that came and managed to stop the fire from jumping from the lorries to the houses in the vicinity. Police admitted the injured lorry conductor to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital.
