Kolkata, 23 September: A fire broke out in the state-run super-speciality SSKM Hospital in Kolkata today noon.
The fire broke out around 12.10 pm in an electric panel / feeder box located in front of a building next to the hospital’s gate number one. The ground floor of the building houses the eye ward and next to it is the cardio thoracic department.
Soon thick black smoke engulfed the entire ground floor, making the patients and their relatives run out in panic.
Police cordoned off the affected building and although five fire tenders rushed in one by one, the hospital staff were able to douse the flames using extinguishers. No body suffered injury in the fire which is suspected had started due to electrical short-circuit.
