Barasat: Police in Bengal’s North 24-Parganas district have arrested five Rohingyas for stepping into the Indian territory illegally. Those arrested include two toddlers.
The five: a man, a woman, two girls, and two children were spotted roaming about Maslandapur, some 55-km from state capital Kolkata, yesterday afternoon. People of the area turned suspicious of them and alerted the Habra police station.
A team of cops came and took the five to the police station for questioning. During this, the cops found out that the five are Rohingya refugees and they infiltrated from Myanmar into Bengal via Bangladesh. They had paid money to an agent to crossover to Bengal.
Police also found out that the Rohingya group was planning to travel to Kashmir apparently to seek a refuge there. This made the police to arrest them today morning.
The five have been identified as Md Joachim (45), Husnaara Khatun (18), Romida Khatun (18), Mumtaz Begum (22) and her children Fatima Razia (5) and Md Rehman (3).
