Siliguri, 30 August: HEAVY downpour since Saturday has resulted in a flood-like situation in some areas of Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts in north Bengal. Stagnant rain water has also inundated the Upper Bagdogra locality off Siliguri town.
In Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, rivers Teesta, Torsha, Kaljani and Jaldhaka are flowing about the danger mark in some areas. At Madarihat in Alipurduar, a river bridge on National Highway 31C was partially damaged by a landslide on Sunday, affecting normal traffic.
Some areas in Binnaguri and Banarhat again in Alipurduar district have gone partially underwater due to flash flood in mountain brooks originating from neighbouring Bhutan. The district administration along with the irrigation department is monitoring the situation.
The regional meteorological centre at Alipore in Kolkata has forecast more rains in north Bengal in the next 24-hours, including in Siliguri, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.
