Kolkata: The ever-busy Chingrihata Crossing (also spelled Chingrighata) on EM Bypass in the city will get a footbridge for the benefit of the local people.
State urban development minister Firhad Hakim today made the announcement and said that the work-order for the construction of the footbridge has been already awarded.
This comes six months since two college students were run over by a speeding bus at Chingrihata Crossing, leading to massive violence and arson by people living in the vicinity.

The recent ban on plying of heavy vehicles on Chingrihata Flyover due to a design fault has further increased the rush of vehicles at Chingrihata Crossing. The flyover connects EM Bypass to Salt Lake Nicco Park area,
The urban development minister today said that work on the proposed footbridge at Chingrihata Crossing will commence after the Durga Puja and the construction will be completed in two years.
