Siliguri, 28 July: FORMER Lok Sabha MP and district secretary of CPI-M’s Jalpaiguri unit, Manik Sanyal is no more.
Sanyal breathed his last RN Tagore Cardiac Research Centre at EM Bypass in Kolkata in the wee hours today. The 82-year-old communist leader was admitted there for the past few days for diabetes and kidney ailments.
His mortal remains reached Jalpaiguri today afternoon, where party workers paid their last respect.
Sanyal had begun his politics by joining the undivided communist party in 1954 and later sided with the CPI-M when it was born in 1964. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jalpaiguri seat twice in 1984 and 1989.
Tall built Sanyal, known for his dedication to the tea trade union movement, was also the Jalpaiguri district secretary of the CPI-M for 22 years at a stretch.
