Kolkata: Police have arrested four persons since last night for the mob attack and assault on police personnel at Tollygunge police station on 11 August evening through midnight.

Among the four arrested are two women identified as Putul Naskar and Pratima Singh. They were picked up during the day today 13 August from Chetla area.

Last night the cops had arrested Dipak Adhikari and Chotka Dolui Chetla’s Matali Bagan slum. All the four arrested so far are residents of the same slum.

Police sources said that Putul, a woman in her late 40s, and her nephew Aakash Naskar were the ones who had lead the mob into attacking Tollygunge police station on Sunday night. Aakash has gone into hiding.

Putul is known as a “don” at Chetla and she had been arrested in the past as well over brawl with people and for anti-social activities. Her nephew acts as her aide.

The arrested quartet was produced in Alipore Court later in the day today and the judge has remanded them in five days police custody. By interrogating them police want to find out the others involved in the attack and the instigators.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Police had yesterday served a show-cause notice on Anup Ghosh, the officer-in-charge of Tollygunge police station.

This is for not informing about the attack to his seniors or Lalbazar police headquarters and not registering an FIR against the attackers on the night the incident occurred.
