Hooghly: Personating as CBI officers, a gang of armed miscreants looted Rs 30-lakh from a long distance bus that was going from Kolkata to Patna in Bihar.

The loot took place early on Friday 19 April at Dankuni in Hooghly district on National Highway 2.

According to police, the gang personating as CBI officers stopped the bus at Dankuni and then started checking the passengers in the bus.

They subsequently identified a businessman who was travelling on the bus and took him away in a car. The bus was allowed to continue its journey.

At Dunlop, the gang snatched Rs 30-lakh that the businessman was carrying with him and sped away in the car.

On realising that he has been conned, the businessman reported the matter to Dankuni police station.

Police swung into action and traced a car at Maity Para that had a fake name place of Ministry of Home Affairs that was used by the gang.

Taking a cue from this, police later arrested three miscreants on Friday night itself and recovered Rs 15-lakh from them and two firearms.

The arrested trio is Pratap Sarkar of Shyambazar in Kolkata, Keramat Ali and Bharat Pal of Barasat in North 24-Parganas. Serampore Court sent them to 10-days police custody after being produced today.

Police are now trying to locate the remaining RS 15-lakh and other members of the gang.
