Kolkata: A teenage girl, who was to appear in the higher secondary exam from next week, has been found hanging at Sonarpur on the southern fringes of Kolkata.
The deceased has been identified as Ahana Mondal (17), a student of Kamrabad High School at Sonarpur police station area. A native of Gosaba in the Sunderbans, she used to stay in a rented house at Sonarpur’s Uttarayan Pally with her mother for the benefit of education.
Both her parents are primary school teachers at Gosaba. Her father mostly lives at their Gosaba house while mother lived with her and used to go to duties from Sonarpur.
Like other days, she returned from Gosaba school in the evening. On knocking on their ground-floor house, she got no response. This made her peep in through an opening in the window only to see her daughter hanging.
Neighbours came rushing on hearing the mother’s scream and forced open the door to take down the girl. She was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Although it is suspected to be a case of suicide, her family and relatives claim that they have no clue as to why the girl has ended her life only a week before her exam.
