Kolkata, 02 February: A case of spine chilling crime has come to fore at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh wherein a girl from Bankura has been murdered by her boyfriend and buried the corpse in a room of the house that they were living in.
Police have arrested the accused boyfriend Udayan Das from Saket Nagar under Govindpura police station at Bhopal this evening and are digging up the floor of the room to exhume the dead body of the Bankura girl named Akanksha Sharma alias Sweta.
Akanksha, in her late 20’s, had left her home in Bankura in June last year telling her family that she had secured a job in the United States. After this, she spoke to her parents back home over the phone for a few days, and then it gradually came down only chats over Facebook messenger or WhatsApp.
Failing to converse with her for a long time, the family suspected that something was amiss and lodged an FIR at Bankura police station against her boyfriend Udayan under Indian Penal Code section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person). She had become friends with Udayan on Facebook.
Bankura police subsequently procured the mobile call records of Akanksha and traced the phone location to Saket Nagar at Bhopal, instead of United States where she had supposedly gone.
Following the discovery, a team from Bankura police station reached Bhopal today morning and with the help of Govindpura police station there detained Udayan Das, who is in his early 30’s.
In the face of marathon questioning and Udayan broke down and told police that he was living in with Akanksha at his father’s house at Saket Nagar. Late in December, he had a fight with her and in a fit of anger, he strangulated her to death.
On killing her, to suppress the crime, Udayan dig up the floor of a ground floor living room and buried Akanksha’s corpse there. He got the floor plastered with marble so to not raise suspicion. This he did with the help of a youth known to him.
Bhopal police are now digging up the floor so to exhume Akanksha’s dead body. Once the body is found, it would be sent for forensic examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The team from Bankura police station is camping at Bhopal and has plans to bring arrested Udayan to the state on transit remand.
