Kolkata: Police have arrested two persons for the alleged gang-rape of a footpath dweller girl in Kolkata. Another accused is absconding.
The incident took place in the wee hours yesterday near the Customs House on Strand Road in central Kolkata. The victim girl lives with family in a shanty by the footpath opposite Customs House.
A night patrol team of Kolkata Police rescued the 20-year-old girl in brutalised condition and admitted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. Later, based on a complaint from her family, North Port police station registered an FIR against three youths hailing from a nearby slum.
Police managed to arrest two of the accused Sunil Gupta and Chandan Sau alias Pintu this morning. The third accused has gone into hiding.
The victim girl is undergoing treatment at the Calcutta Medical College and doctors attending on her said that she has severe injuries in her private parts.
