Kolkata: A minor girl has allegedly been raped inside Fort William, the headquarters of the Eastern Command of the Army in Kolkata.

The violated girl, aged about only 12 years, is the daughter of a civilian employed by defence authorities at the Army Officer’s Institute (AOI). She lives with her parents in an official quarter inside Fort William.

Going by an FIR lodged at Maidan police station by her mother, the child was raped between 6 pm and 8 pm on 15 June by one Sagar Mallick.

Thirty-five-year-old Sagar is the relative of Raja Mallick, another civilian employed at AOI and who occupies a quarter neighbouring to the victim’s father.

Sagar, who was visiting his relative, allegedly lured the child and raped her insider his relative’s quarter. As soon as the victim’s family got a wind, he escaped from Fort William.

A team from Maidan police station raided Raja Mallick’s quarter on 16 June but did not find the accused. He was subsequently arrested in the wee hours today 19 June from a place outside Fort William, Eastern Command said in an official statement.

Police have booked the accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section IPC 376 (2) (f) and relevant provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

He was produced in a city court today and the judge has sent him to police remain until 24 June.
