Siliguri, 25 August: GORKHA Janmukti Morcha has decided to attend the meeting with political parties convened by the state government in Kolkata on 29 August, Tuesday, to find a solution to the Darjeeling unrest.

This is even as the all-party forum, Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC), of which Morcha is a constituent, decided in its meeting at Kalimpong today that no party from the Hills should attend the meet in its individual capacity.

Instead, GMCC will send representatives to the Kolkata meet, provided the government sends it an invitation. The forum said that it will meet again on 27 August to review the situation, and has for now, left it to the Morcha to decide whether to lift the indefinite shutdown imposed on the Hills by the party for 72 days now.

Significantly, the Jan Andolan Party of ex-MLA Harka Bahadur Chhetri, Bharatiya Gorkha Parishang, and Gorkha Bharati Bichar Mancha, did not attend the GMCC meet today. This is them being not being made part of the GMCC delegation that had met Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on 13 August.

Hours before the GMCC announcement came this evening on the 29 August meet, Morcha central committee held a meeting at Mungpoo in Kurseong sub-division. There the party decided to attend the state convened meeting that is scheduled to be held at the state secretariat Nabanna in Howrah.

Unidentified miscreants carried out a bomb blast on Peshok Bridge near Teesta Bazar in Kalimpong district in the wee hours today.

The blast failed to inflict a major damage on the bridge that is made of wood and metal bars, but a wooden railing on it got chipped. This is the fourth bomb blast to have taken place in the Hills since 19 August.

Residents of the area said that the blast occurred around 1 am and a large police team came to the site early in the morning. Cops suspect that miscreants wanted to blow up the bridge mainly used by vehicles travelling from Darjeeling to Kalimpong and Gangtok.
