Kolkata, 23 June: RIPPLES of the Gorkhaland agitation of Darjeeling on Friday reached faraway Netherlands where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on an official tour since 20 June.

About 10 individuals of Nepali Gorkha origin today held a demonstration in front of the Indian Embassy in The Hague shouting slogans and holding banner / placards demanding creation of a separate Gorkhaland state out of Bengal.

These individuals, who live in the Netherlands due to professional obligations, had gathered on the pavement opposite to the Indian Embassy around 2.30 pm Indian time and continued with the demonstration until 4.30 pm.

They did not try to enter the Embassy or create trouble for the vehicles passing along the road in front of it. Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) general secretary Roshan Giri shared the news along with a Facebook video of the demonstration as evidence.

The demonstration came on day Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was at The Hague receiving the UN’s first place winner award in public services for Kanyashree scheme.
