Kolkata: CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechuri has termed Governor Tathagata Roy’s statement on bulldozing of Lenin’s statue in Tripura as “dangerous for the democracy.”
Yechuri today told journalists that ever since the BJP won in Tripura Assembly polls, CPI-M offices, workers, their houses, and properties are being attacked and set on fire.
“It is the Constitutional obligation of the Governor to ensure that people’s rights and life are protected. But he is visibly happy over the bulldozing of Lenin’s statue in Tripura yesterday,” the CPI-M general secretary said referring to Roy’s tweet last night.
“What one democratically elected government can do another democratically elected government can undo. And vice versa,” Governor Roy had tweeted last night when someone sought his intervention to the bringing down of Lenin’s statue at Tripura’s Belonia yesterday.
Yechuri added that the action manifests RSS-BJP’s fascist mindset. “We are ready to tackle the situation as its come. But if such vandalism and hooliganism continue, it will not augur well for democracy.”
