Kolkata: Bengal government has decided to allocate land at subsidised rate to state civil service officers to develop housing cooperatives.
Earlier, IAS and IPS officers in the state were provided with land for housing cooperatives.
Extending the scheme to cover the state civil service officers is an attempt by the government to address the perpetual grievance that all Indian service officers always get all the benefits.
Sources at the state secretariat Nabanna said that to begin with, three areas have been identified for the proposed housing cooperatives. Those include~ 5.41-acre in New Town, two-acre in Siliguri and one-acre in Durgapur.
The proposed housing cooperatives will develop G+10 buildings on the allocated land. Each of the buildings will have 400 flats.
The land is being allocated by the urban development department; the public works department will carry out the construction work for which the respective housing cooperatives will pay.
