Kolkata: Even as parts of Kolkata are witnessing light rains since last night, the weather office has forecast heavy downpour in three south Bengal districts tomorrow (30 October). Three of them are adjoining Kolkata.
The three districts, where according to the weather office it will rain anything above 60 mm on Tuesday, are North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, and East Midnapore. The rains, however, is unlikely to cover the entire territories of the three districts. Rather, the rains will stay confirmed to a few areas.
The forecast comes on a day some parts of Kolkata, mainly southern area in the city, are witnessing light rain since morning.
According to Kolkata Municipal Corporation, till early afternoon, it has rained up to 1 mm at Ultadanga, Ballygunge, Dhapa, Topsia, Patuli, and Behala. Central and north Kolkata are still keeping dry although the sky is partially overcast.
Other than the forecast for heavy rains in the three districts, all the remaining districts in south Bengal, that is, Howrah, Hooghly, West Burdwan, Jhargram, East and West Burdwan, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum, Nadia, and Murshidabad will witness light rains today and tomorrow.
The rain is being triggered by the incursion of moisture from north India towards north-west Bay of Bengal. The excessive moisture is leading to the formation of a low pressure and this, in turn, will result in the downpour in Gangetic Bengal. The weather in north Bengal will be dry from tomorrow on wards.
