Kolkata: Calcutta High Court has extended the stay on the Panchayat poll process in Bengal by one more day. The next hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
Justice Subrata Talukdar extended the stay today morning in view of a petition that was pending in a division bench challenging his 12 April order.
On that occasion, justice Talukdar had stayed the poll process till 16 April in view of allegation of violence by Trinamool in the nomination phase and the State Election Commission’s (SEC) failure to offer a redress.
Trinamool had moved a petition in a division bench the next day challenging the order and the hearing was scheduled for today afternoon. In view of this, justice Talukdar this morning deferred the hearing in his court saying that he will wait until tomorrow for the outcome in the division bench hearing.
Later in the day, the division bench headed by justice Biswanath Samaddar dismissed Trinamool’s challenge petition and said that all cases pertaining to the Panchayat polls will be dealt by justice Talukdar.
