Siliguri: A teenage girl has committed suicide on the outskirts of Siliguri in less than 24-hours since her boyfriend hanged himself.
The tragic incident has taken place at Dabgram area near Siliguri. The deceased girl has been identified as Shipra Roy, a resident of Dabgram’s Hatiadanga.
Shipra, who was to appear for the upcoming higher secondary exam, was in love with her classmate Anup Roy, who lived at neighbouring Chayan Para.
Anup was found hanging in his residence yesterday morning. Before hanging himself, the boy shot a video on his mobile wherein he could be seen throwing parting flying kisses to someone unnamed.
As the news of his death circulated in the locality, Shipra sank in utter depression. Learning this, a girlfriend of her came to her house in the afternoon and tried consoling her. After this, Shipra went out apparently to see the friend off.
Not seeing her for a long time, Shipra’s mother raised an alarm. The girl’s father Jagadish Roy decided to go out looking for her and as he went to change, he found the door bolted from inside. On peeping through a window, he found Shipra hanging from the ceiling.
“I took her down at once and rushed to Siliguri District Hospital. On reaching there, doctors said that she was dead,” the bereaved father said today. He maintained that his family was unaware of Shipra’s affair with Anup before her suicide.
Meanwhile, the reason for her boyfriend Anup’s suicide is still not known. The back to back suicides by two teenagers have cast a pall of gloom in the locality.
