Hooghly: A gang of miscreants, equipped with firearms, today abducted a railway hawker from his residence at Bandel in Hooghly and then shot him dead at a place nearby.
The miscreants pumped in as many as five bullets into the unarmed hawker indicative of a severe grudge against him. The deceased hawker has been identified as Sunny Jha, a resident of Bandel’s Lalbaba Ashram area.
His mother, Saraswati Jha, says that the gang of four armed miscreants knocked on her door today dawn and asked her son out.
“I tried to stop them from taking my son but they thundered that they will kill him if I resist. They then took him away at gunpoint and I kept on running behind. I stopped after some distance as they threatened to kill me as well,” Saraswati recalls.
As the day broke and still no trace of Sunny yet, Saraswati, with the help of neighbours, reported the matter to police. The cops launched a search and found Sunny’s bullet-ridden dead body about 10 km away near Haludpool bridge at Polba.
Police registered a murder case and sent the dead body for post-mortem. The bereaved mother says she has seen one of the miscreants before but claims to have no clue as to why the gang killed her son so brutally.
