Cooch Behar: Despite a cautionary note sounded by none other than the party chief Mamata Banerjee, there is no end to the factional fight between Trinamool and Youth Trinamool in Cooch Behar district.
In the latest manifestation of this, a house and a ration shop have been torched at Abutara village in Dinhata. The torched properties belonged to Youth Trinamool workers.
As alleged by those whose properties have been torched, followers of Trinamool Dinhata-II block president Mir Humayun Kabir laid a siege on Abutara village last night and started lobbing crude bombs.
This led to a house catching fire and an old woman, who got trapped in the house, was rescued at the last moment. A ration shop located nearby too went up in flames as the fire spread.
After the attack, the Trinamool faction backtracked. While returning, they left live bombs by the railway tracks of Alipurduar Junction – Bamanhat route. Police seized two live bombs today morning from there.
Following the attack and arson, a police team visited Abutara village today but none of the accused have been arrested as yet.
The feud between Trinamool and Youth Trinamool came to the fore during the Panchayat polls held in May this year. On being denied election ticket, several Youth Trinamool cadres contested the polls as Independents and defected Trinamool’s official candidates in many seats in Cooch Behar district.
Ever since this, the Youth Trinamool is trying to assert itself much to the displeasure of its parent party.
