Asansol: A commando of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has suffered grievous injuries during a para-drop exercise at Panagarh Air Base in West Burdwan district.

The injured commando, H Bahadur, has been admitted to a private nursing home at Kanksa town near Panagarh. His condition is stated to be stable.

The mishap took place today noon when an IAF commando troop was rehearsing para-dropping exercise.

The commandos where being dropped from fighter aircrafts in simulating an emergency situation and they were landing with the help of parachutes from some 7,000 feet above the ground.

During the exercise, Bahadur, who is in his late 30’s, came crushing to the ground as his parachute malfunctioned, sources said. He suffered injuries mainly in his waist.

The injured commando was rescued by fellow IAF men and was rushed to the private nursing home at Kanksha. He will be relocated to Army’s Command Hospital in Kolkata if need arises.
