Midnapore: A family group of parents, uncle, siblings from Ichapur in North 24-Parganas had come to Digha for holidaying in the sea resort. In less than 24-hours, the enjoyment has turned into mourning!
Mahendra Jaiswal of Ichapur reached Digha yesterday late afternoon with six members of his family to spend two days in nothing but leisure and enjoyment. The family lodged in a hotel at Old Digha. His son, daughter, and nephews ~ all in their teens to early youth ~ were in utter joy.
To make the best of the trip, Jaiswal’s son Vishal (19) and his teenage nephews Vijay and Shankar got up early this morning and headed to the Old Digha beach to bathe in the sea. Little did the bustling boys noticed that there is a warning put up there stating that the sea here is rough and bathing is barred.
Thus, within a few minutes of them getting into the sea, all the three were dragged away by the tides. Seeing them drowning, divers engaged by the local police plunged into the water. They managed to rescue Vijay and Shankar in a semi-conscious state but could not locate Vishal.
The family’s leisure turned into a nightmare all at once. Police admitted the two rescued teenagers to the Digha State General Hospital and launched a search for the missing youth using speedboats.
But till late this afternoon, there is no trace of the third year undergraduate student of a college in Ichapur. All the family is now banking on are their prayers and a miracle.
