The North Port police station had fished out a girl’s dead body from Babughat area in the city on 18 December. Missing girl Susmita Roy’s family today identified the body at Kolkata Police Morgue to be that of her.

The body has decomposed and her parents and elder brother identified it by taking the cue of an old cut mark on her arm and with the help of her apparels. There is no visible mark of injury or harm on the body but police are yet to ascertain the cause of death.

Susmita’s father Jawahar Roy has, however, alleged that his daughter has been murdered. “My daughter would not commit suicide! My humblest appeal to the Chief Minister (of Bengal), please ensure a proper investigation into this,” the bereaved father told reporters.

The family had lodged a complaint at Kalighat police station on 12 December naming four youths, who had been allegedly stalking her on the phone. Two of them, Vivek and Gurmeet ~ their last names not disclosed yet ~ are from Jharkhand’s Ghatshila, which is also Susmita’s native place.

Vivek is employed at a school at Ghatshila; Gurmeet works in New Delhi. Police have asked them to come over for questioning.

Twenty-two year old Susmita came to Kolkata last month and enrolled for air hostess training from 6 November at private institute Frankfinn’s Park Street branch. She was lodging as paying guest with other girls in the house of S Mullick at Ishwar Ganguly Street under Kalighat police station area.

She left the paying-guest accommodation on 10 December and there was no trace of her from the very next day. Getting to know about this, her family came down to Kolkata and lodged a complaint with police.

On scanning Susmita’s call records, police have found out that she, Vivek, and Gurmeet spoke on a conference call for about 1.5 hours on 10 December.

Susmita’s roommate has told police that before going missing Susmita was keeping very depressed and would often say that “Vivek has cheated me.” The roommate said that Susmita often used to be on video calls and many times during such calls, she used to dress very openly.

The landlady has also said that Susmita had started smoking in the house and on being warned that smoking was not allowed there, she told the landlady about being depressed.
