Siliguri: Police have arrested the brother-in-law of a BJP worker in connection with the firing on him at Chandamari village off Cooch Behar town on Sunday night.
Nagar Sarkar has been arrested from near Siliguri by crops from the Bhaktinagar police station. According to police, the pistol, from which bullets were fired on BJP worker Narayan Sarkar, belongs to his brother-in-law Nagar.
Police have also claimed that it was Nagar’s cousin brother Prahlad Sarkar who opened the fire on Narayan although the motive is not clear yet.
This is even as the BJP leaders in Cooch Behar have been alleging that a group of Trinamool-backed miscreants had opened fire on Narayan when he was returning home alone.
The injured BJP worker, who was admitted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital with critical injuries, has now been shifted to a private hospital at Sevoke Road in Siliguri. Doctors said that the condition of the 19-year-old is still critical.
