Kolkata, 14 December: KOLKATA Municipal Corporation (KMC) has stopped the work of a high-rise residential complex at Picnic Garden in south Kolkata which was being built allegedly by filling up wetlands.

Not only this, KMC has also lodged an FIR against the private company that has been constructing the high-rise on a 20 cottah area at 232 Picnic Garden. The name of the high-rise is Rocia Garden.

Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said that the construction was on without obtaining necessary permission from KMC. “I got a complaint on this yesterday and an FIR was lodged at once. Today a team from KMC visited the site and stopped the work. The matter will be thoroughly investigated,” he said.

Bijan Lal Mukherjee, the Trinamool councillor for ward 67 where the disputed construction was going on said that he had communicated the matter to the Mayor on receiving a complaint from local residents.

With the work being stopped by KMC, people who had booked flats in the upcoming residential high-rise by paying advance money would be the worst affected ones.
