Kolkata, 08 November: KOLKATA Municipal Corporation (KMC) has agreed to vacate 20 of its staff quarters at Raja Subodh Mallick Square near Hind Cinema in north Kolkata to allow the construction of a ventilation shaft for the East-West Metro Corridor.
Once KMC vacates the staff quarters, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd will start work on the ventilation shaft within a week, it has said. Ventilation shaft is a must for the Sealdah-BBD Bag underground stretch of the East-West Metro Corridor that is to connect Salt Lake Sector-V to Howrah Maidan.
The decision to shift the KMC staff quarters was taken at a high level meeting between the state government and various Central agencies involved in the construction of Metro projects in Kolkata. Held at Nabanna, the meeting was convened to expedite the progress of various Metro projects in the city.
The meeting chaired by state chief secretary Basudeb Banerjee, was attended by Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, Kolkata Metro general manager MC Chauhan, senior officers Rail Vikas Nigan Ltd, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, and representatives of related state government were present.

JOKA – BBD BAG METRO PROJECT

Urban development minister Firhad Hakim will hold a meeting with RVNL and RITES officials tomorrow to resolve the dispute regarding four multi-storyed buildings that falls on the alignment of the Metro viaduct at Mahisbathan in Rajarhat New Town.
NOAPARA – AIRPORT METRO PROJECT
The 583 encroachments on the Noapara – Barasat direction under South Dum Dum Municipality to be removed by January.
