Kolkata: In the latest addition to ATM fraud in Kolkata, Rs 50,000 has been siphoned off from the bank account of a radio jockey (RJ) in the city.
This comes a day after Kolkata Police formed a special investigation team to probe ATM frauds in Kolkata, which stood at 80 over the last few days.
RJ Nilanjana, who works at 91.9 Friends FM has told in her FIR at Alipore police station that she was working out in the gym when an SMS was delivered on her mobile at 7.51 am stating that Rs 50,000 has been withdrawn from her bank account.
Nilanjana at once called up her bank’s helpline only to be told that the money has been withdrawn from an ATM in Delhi. The RJ later went to the bank branch where she maintains the account and filed a complaint and surrendered the ATM card.
After this, she lodged an FIR at Alipore police station. The RJ has been assured that the case will be referred to the special investigation team and it will probe the case in conjunction with the bank.
Kolkata Police today publicised 11 DOs and DONTs on its Facebook page asking people to be cautious while using ATM. This includes changing ATM PIN frequently, not using unmanned ATM counters, to check the ATM slots for any external device before using, pressing the cancel button after every ATM transaction, and informing police of any suspicious person in ATM counter, etc.
