Kolkata: Police have sealed the diagnostic centre of a private nursing home in Kolkata and have detained its owner and radiologist over alleged faulty sonography on a pregnant woman.
The move comes after one Sukanta Biswas accused Green Park Nursing Home located at Mukundapur off EM Bypass of having conducted six ultrasound sonographies on his wife Tapasi Biswas and every time giving a report saying that the baby was fine.
However, when the baby was born at the nursing home on Wednesday, it was found to have physical deformities that the sonography reports never ever even hinted at. This made Biswas family, which also lives at Mukundapur, to allege that the nursing home may have changed the baby soon after birth.
They turned up with relatives and neighbours at the nursing home this morning and resorted to an agitation. Learning about this, a team from Jadavpur Purba police station rushed in and brought the situation under control.
In the preliminary probe, police found out that the equipment at the diagnostic centre of the nursing home may be faulty and this is why the deformities of the baby never got revealed when in the mother’s womb.
Based on a complaint lodged by the newborn’s father, police sealed the diagnostic centre until the investigation is completed. The owner of the nursing home Sanjit Saha and radiologist Barun Chowdhury have been detained for questioning.
