Barasat, 04 September: A 12-YEAR old girl from Bongaon in North 24-Pargans district had ventured out of home to earn two square meals for herself and her widowed mother by working as a domestic help in Kolkata city.
But five months down the line, she has now returned home with burn marks all over her body. The burns were inflicted by her employer who used to rub lighted cigarette on her skin whenever she failed to serve him to his expectation!
What’s more! The employer, Rishikesh Samaddar, happens to be a “gentleman” in his sixties living at a middle-class locality at Shyambazar in north Kolkata.
Such an inhuman torture, uncommon even in current day Bengal, would have continued but for a neighbour of the girl’s mother, who came to Shyambazar yesterday and rescued the girl.
Police said that the girl’s mother approached neighbour Raju Chakraborty recently for help as she was not getting any news of her daughter nor the monthly wage that she had been promised.
This after, Animesh Samaddar, another of her neighbour on whose recommendation she had sent her daughter to his elder brother’s residence at Shyambazar in Kolkata, was not offering much help.
Chakraborty collected the Shyambazar address from Samaddar and turned up there on Thursday noon. When he spoke to the little girl, she broke into tears and narrated the torture that she was facing. Chakraborty lost no time and took back the girl to her mother in Bongaon.
On Friday, the ill-fated mother lodged a complaint at Bongaon police station detailing the torture that her minor girl has withstood in the past five months.
A team of cops from Bongaon arrived at the Shyambazar house on Friday afternoon but by then, the accused employer had absconded putting his house under lock and key. Police said that they would not give up on tracking down the “gentleman” and would bring him to book.
