Cooch Behar: The doctor of a reputed government hospital in Cooch Behar has been found dead in a hotel of the town.
A suicide note found in the hotel room mentions that he was depressed ever since being transferred from Kolkata to Cooch Behar.
Police have identified the deceased as Shrawan Kanti, 40, a psychiatrist at the reputed MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar town. He was transferred from the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital some three months ago.
The psychiatrist checked in at a famed hotel in Cooch Behar’s RN Road with two luggage yesterday afternoon. The hotel allotted him room no 114.
According to the hotel owner, today morning a room service staff went to serve him tea but got no response. He alerted other staff members and even after further knocks when no response came, they alerted the police.
A team from Kotwali police station arrived soon and opened the door with a duplicate key provided by the hotel. Inside, the doctor was found dead with a deep cut in his wrist.
Police found a suicide note in the room where he mentioned of depression on being transferred to Cooch Behar and wrote that none is responsible for his suicide.
Mobile number of a relative named Amit had been mentioned for contacting his family.
The cops retrieved the dead body and sent it to the same MJN Hospital for post-mortem. The incident has left police dumbstruck as being a psychiatrist by training, Kanti was supposed to counsel people suffering from depression. Instead, he has ended up killing himself.
