Kolkata: Police have arrested two scions of a famed jewelry trader family of Kolkata on charges of forcing the wife of one to have sex with both of them on the pretext of family tradition.
The arrest comes after the young homemaker lodged an FIR with police on Thursday. Separately, police have registered a suo motu FIR against the two for assaulting policemen when they went to arrest them on Thursday night.
The arrested duo has been identified as Suranjan Sen and, his elder brother Nilanjan Sen. They live in the family-owned palatial flat on the third floor of an apartment at Arihant Garden area of posh Ballygunge Park in south Kolkata.
On Thursday afternoon, Suranjan’s wife walked into Kareya police station and, lodged an FIR alleging that her husband has been forcing her into a sexual relationship with his elder brother by maintaining that it is a “family tradition.”
She claimed that other women in the family have been facing the same perversion year after year wherein they were being forced to share bed with the younger or the elder brother-in-law.
But since she is the first to raise a protest, she was tortured and asked to bring dowry from her parents. Unable to withstand the sexual perversion and torture anymore, she finally approached the police.
Police acted swiftly and raided the flat of the affluent family on Thursday night itself.
“The accused tried to stop police from carrying out their duty. Some policemen were assaulted as well. We have initiated a separate FIR against them for this,” said, Kalyan Banerjee, the deputy commissioner (south) of Kolkata Police.
The accused, while being produced in a city court, however, claimed that the allegation of sexual perversion is utterly false.
Their elderly father even pointed finger on the character and integrity of the complainant daughter-in-law.
“It is she who used to spend nights with other men away from home. Because of this, we had stopped talking to her in the family and, she finally left the house some seven months ago for her parental residence,” the head of the family said.
