Kolkata: SOMAK Chowdhury, a junior doctor of Chittaranjan National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, who had jumped from the 5th floor of the hospital yesterday evening, has passed away. [READ: Junior doctor jumps from 5th floor of Kolkata medical college]
According to the hospital sources, Somak died in the wee hours today due to the multiple critical injuries that he had suffered after falling from the hospital building. Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason for his death but preliminary probe suggests that the post-graduate trainee in surgery has committed suicide.
Somak’s post-mortem report has ruled out the chances of him being under the influence of alcohol. Rather the report has clarified that the young doctor yesterday did not consume alcohol at all.
The head of the surgery department at Chittaranjan Medical College, where he was in the second year of his PG course, has told police that about half-an-hour before the fatal fall, Somak had a heated conversation with someone over the phone.
Police are trying to access his call list to find out who did he had spoken to yesterday. Cops are also talking to his family from Baidyabati in Hooghly for a clue.
