Kolkata: Commuters in Kolkata shall have to brace for crowded Metro trains for a little over a month as there will be fewer trains on weekdays.
Metro Railway today said that starting 19 November and till 21 December, it will operate 284 trains on weekdays instead of 300 days that are now operated. That is a reduction of 16 trains a day.
Metro Railway is doing this to facilitate track maintenance work at Tollygunge Metro station (Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) in connection with the remodelling of the station yard.
Tollygunge Metro station, which got the third platform earlier this year, is important in the sense that it also functions as a terminal point and has a car-shed.
During the days specified, the last train from both ends ~ New Garia and Dum Dum ~ will start at 9.54 pm instead of 9.55 pm. There will be no change in either the number of trains or timings on Saturdays and Sundays.
