Kolkata, 17 September: A RELIEVING piece of news for puja shoppers in Kolkata!
Beginning this week, Metro Railway will run extra trains on all weekends in the run up to the Durga Puja that begins with Maha Shashthi on 19 October.
This is to clear the rush of puja shoppers in the city, a vast majority of whom prefer to travel by Metro trains. The extra trains will be operated on Saturdays and Sundays.
According to Metro Railway spokesperson, Ravi Narayan Mahapatra, on 19 and 26 September and 03, 10 and 17 October (Saturdays), they will operate 274 trains, up by 50 trains than the usual run of 224 trains.
Similarly, on 20 and 27 September and 04, 11 and 18 October (Sundays), Metro Railway will operate 174 trains, up by 64 trains than the usual run of 110 trains.
On these Saturdays and Sundays, the trains will play at an interval of 7, 8, 10 and 15 minutes interval.
Metro Railway, which carries around 5 lakh passengers a day, will later notify a special train schedule for the five Durga Puja days.
