Kolkata: A young homemaker is battling for life in a hospital bed after she allegedly jumped off from the terrace of a four-storied building in south Kolkata in the wee hours today.
This has happened at Satyen Roy Road in Behala. The homemaker Harishama Pandey (25) lived with her husband Dinesh Pandey and a two-and-a-half-year-old son in a third-floor flat in TT Tower there. Dinesh is a chartered accountant.
According to Dinesh, on waking up from bed around 6.30 this morning, he didn’t find Harishama on the bed and the main door to their flat was ajar. This made him suspicious and he started looking for her when he spotted her lying in a pool of blood on the backyard basement of the building.
Hearing his screams for help, neighbours rushed in and the homemaker was rushed to a private nursing home at New Alipore in a critically injured and senseless state. Doctors said that her condition is fragile. A team from Behala police station visited the apartment later in the day.
By talking to people living in houses nearby the building, police have learnt that Harishama probably fell on the basement around 3 in the wee hours. She first fell on the barbed wire placed over the boundary wall of the compound and then fell on the basement ground which is concretised. This mitigated the impact a little.
Strange though, her husband claimed to have no clue of her being missing from bed for nearly three-and-a-half hours until he woke up at 6.30 am. Occupants of other flats in the apartment too have told police that they did not hear the sound of her fall.
A neighbour has, however, told the investigators that Harishama and Dinesh were running into a feud for a while. Police are waiting for the homemaker to stabilise so to record her statement.
