Kolkata: A young woman, who was to celebrate her first marriage anniversary on 9 December, has died of dengue after battling the deadly fever for 25 days. Last month, in the course of her dengue, she had given birth to a stillborn baby.
Jesmita Halder, 26, hailed from Haltu in south Kolkata. She was married to Amit Saha of Ultadanga in north Kolkata last December. As she was expecting, Jesmita came to live at her parents’ house at Haltu during Kali puja and developed a fever.
On 24 October, the young woman was admitted to a charitable hospital near Hazra and she was tested positive for dengue on 26 October. She was subsequently relocated to a private super-specialty hospital on EM Bypass. There she gave birth to a stillborn baby on 31 October and slipped into a coma.
Jesmita was kept in a critical care unit and doctors were hoping that she will recover from dengue and come out of the coma. But the woman passed away at the nursing home last night, putting an end to the dream of a family that she and her husband Amit were weaving.
