Kolkata: Inspector General KR Nautiyal has taken over as the Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard).

He will excise operational and administrative control through the Coast Guard Commander (East) at Chennai and Coast Guard Commander (North East) based at Kolkata.

Nautiyal is an alumnus of US Naval War College Newport, Rhode Island, and completed the US Naval Staff Course with distinguished grading. He also is an alumnus of the US Coast Guard Academy, having attended the Search and Rescue and Port Operations department course.

The flag officer holds a master’s degree in defence and strategic studies from the University of Madras, master’s in human resources management, disaster management, journalism and mass communication, and in NGO Management. He is presently pursuing PhD in anthropology.

Nautiyal is the only serving Coast Guard officer who has successfully commanded all the three Coast Guard regions.
