Kolkata: WITH BJP already stealing the show vis-à-vis questioning the Bengal poll panel’s failure to ensure security to opposition parties for the coming Panchayat elections, Left Front has at last woken up to the situation.
Left Front chairman Biman Bose today told a news conference that they will move the Supreme Court tomorrow challenging the poll panel’s volte-face on extending the deadline for filing of nominations for the polls.
The Left Front is also mulling a general strike in the state on the issue and will take a final call on this tomorrow. This apart it has decided to hold a sit-in demonstration in front the State Election Commission office in Kolkata on 11-13 and 16 April.
“The state election commissioner Amarendra Kumar Singh is acting like a mere puppet of the state government. Despite his chair being empowered by the Constitution, Singh is taking orders from the state government and the ruling party. This is not acceptable. We are moving the Supreme Court tomorrow,” Bose said.
