Kolkata: Youth and student wing activists of the Left parties today 14 September took out a protest march in the city against the police action on fellow cadres in Howrah yesterday.
The protest march started from Jora Girja on AJC Bose Road and moved up to Sealdah station area. Congress’ student wing Chhatra Parishad also joined in the protest.
As soon as the rally reached near Big Bazar in front of Sealdah station, police stopped them putting up a barricade. The marchers tried to force their way by breaking the barricade and this led to a scuffle with the police.
However, unlike yesterday in Howrah, when police and Left youth and student cadres clashed leaving several injured, the scuffle toady ended a little later without any injury to anyone.
Meanwhile, the Howrah District Court has denied bail to 22 Left cadres who were arrested over the violence in Left’s Singur – Nabanna march.
On being produced by the police today, the judge sent them to police custody until Monday 16 September. They have been booked for rioting and attacking policemen.
