Siliguri: POLICE in Jalpaiguri have confiscated a lorry along with around 450 kg ganja that was being smuggled in from Assam.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Jalpaiguri’s additional superintendent of police, Indira Mukherjee, apprehended the lorry at Paharpur on the outskirts of the town today. The lorry had originated from Assam and was heading to Bihar via National Highway 31 that passes through Jalpaiguri.
On searching, the police team found as much as 450 kg ganja that was packed in gunny bags hidden below sacks filled with other items. Going by the market rate, the seized ganja is worth about Rs 22.5-lakh.
Following the find, police confiscated the lorry with ganja and arrested the driver.
